A Long and Forgotten Ghost Story (1998)

Many decades ago, a young playboy named Sze walked into a stream and killed himself. His marriage to his loved one, a prostitute named Blossom, simply could not be. After decades as a lonely ghost travelling the world looking for his love, he returns to his former village in 1998. Few days are left before he's up for reincarnation. Shades of Rouge.

Appearing as the Plate Fairy, Sze (Lai Yiu-cheung) enlists the help of two aspiring beauty queens and a stuntman and his mate. By possessing them via the seven holes on their heads, Sze can move freely by day, as well as have them cover some much-needed leg-work in his search. Just as things are finally going right for our spook, Taoist ghostbuster Law Kar-ying ("He might not have lots of hair, but he is powerful.") hits the scene, is entered via the backdoor, and inadvertently makes for a mighty surprising ending. All up, a chirpy and enjoyable little ghost comedy, far beyond my expectations.
