Cheap Killers (1998)

In a nutshell, and with as few spoilers as possible, Cheap Killers follows two contract killers (Sunny Chan and Alex Fong) as they are brought down through their dealings with a woman and that rather nasty world of professional hitmen.

Just like Her Name is Cat, there are some interesting steps forward in terms of lighting, sets, action choreography and cinematography. And, being a Clarence Ford film, there is a sizzling female lead (played by Kathy Chow Hoi-mei).

The rest of the cast, including the two male leads (Chan Kam-hung and Alex Fong) are smooth too and the plot, of the heroic bloodshed variety, makes for some nicely dramatic moments. There are a few weaknesses of course, but to mention them would create spoilers. And spoilers aren't advisable with a plot like this one. The minor faults hardly detract from an otherwise interesting, and at times clever, production. All up, worth seeing.
