God.Com (1998)The Telford Gardens group suicide from several months ago reappears in a local film. But unlike in How To Get Rich With Feng Shui, it isn't wholly blamed on the supernormal. Five cult followers seemingly attempt suicide in a Tak Po Gardens flat. One survives - only just - and there are enough leads on the scene to point to two murderers. One scarpers to the mainland and is left to the Chinese authorities (and here's where reality ends) but the cult leader is the remaining target. It takes the survivor's friend Blonde Ying (Grace Lam) to lead the cops to The Church of True God, led by Mr Pope (AKA "The evil pope") as cop Chan (Louis Koo) from the OCTB puts it. Needless to say, Ying's instantly caught up with the cult. Casting aside memories of him killing her best friend, she promptly sleeps with the enigmatic leader as he prepares his followers for the end of the world (1/1/99). In the meantime, the police delve into Mr Pope with the help of supernatural specialist cop Officer Chiu (Anthony Wong) who, like Chan, finds the case brings back a violent and sinister past. There's a surprisingly well made and acted (even Grace Lam) thriller in all this. |
