Love in the River (1998)

'Love in the River' is easily the worst local film I've seen so far this year, eclipsing T.H.E Professionals, Faces of Horrid and Chinese Erotic Ghost Story on the crud factor. This steaming dollop of film is utterly inconclusive and ultimately confusing. The first story - something to do with Mark Cheng, Emily Kwan, her much-hidden bust and some dead husbands - gives up after an hour, making way for a completely unrelated 35-minute stinker about some girls, a house and a boat boy. I only knew the second story had ended when the credits started rolling. It's like they've tacked together two films previously left for dead, made them go more than 90 minutes and given it a name. Maybe I missed the director's intentions, or something. Quality actors Lai Yiu-cheung and Simon Loui are unfortunately caught in this rambling swill, and even their presences don't help things out.
